A few words about Metamorfosi, Athens
Metamorfosi is a working-class settlement in the northern part of Athens, at the foot of Parnitha. It borders with the municipalities of Kifissia and Lykovrysi, Heraklion, Nea Ionia and Philadelphia and with the municipality of Acharnes. The older name Koukouvaounes, which changed on January 17, 1957 to Metamorfosi (means: transfiguration), remains widespread, especially among the city's older residents.
The presence of human life and activity in the area of today's Metamorphosis was pointed out and demonstrated with indisputable scientific conclusions, based on corresponding archaeological findings, and dates back to about 4,600 years before today. Today's city is the historical continuation of one of the oldest centres of life in the interior of Attica.
In the 15th century, some Arvanite families settled there and organized around the square, the well, and later the church of the Transfiguration of the Savoir. It was a picturesque village in the countryside of Athens that was a famous place of recreation of the Athenians, both because of the good climate, but also because of the many taverns that existed in the area.
Today, it has evolved into a complete modern Municipality, with parks, greenery, many squares, shops, and sports facilities and still has a nice climate. It has many factories, handicrafts and warehouses of clothes, shoes and accessories of high quality and with good prices.
