A few words about Palaio Faliro, Athens
Paleo Faliro is a coastal district located on the south side of Attica and borders Kallithea, Nea Smyrni, Agios Dimitrios and the municipality of Alimos.
The 2004 Summer Olympics brought significant changes to Paleo Faliro:
The tram returned to the seafront, as part of the works done for the transport of Athens for the games
The Hippodrome in the Faliriko Delta stopped operating and was transferred to the Olympic Equestrian Centre in Markopoulo, Attica. As soon as the Hippodrome left, the place where it was located was bought by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, which built the facilities of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre, where the National Library of Greece and the National Opera House were relocated.
The Indoor Gym of Faliro was built in the Faliriko Delta where the Tae Kwon Do and Handball games were hosted. It is a modern gym that can accommodate up to 4,000 spectators. Since then the place hosts various events.
Paleo Faliro has large beaches that from the beginning of the 20th century until today continue to be a busy destination for swimming, especially the area of Eden, next to Marina Alimou.
Along the beach of Paleo Faliro, are some of the neoclassical villas, typical examples of architecture of the last century? One of them is the villa "KOULOURA", a tower with special architecture and history, which today has been completely restored and is used as a museum of toys.
Characteristic for Paleo Faliro is the white building of Floisvos, located on the beach, opposite the homonymous square of the municipality. The white building used to be a private entertainment and dining centre. It came into the possession of the municipality in 2005 and today is a Municipal Cultural Centre.
