Alexandroupolis is the capital of the Evros regional unit in East Macedonia and Thrace and the administrative, economic and cultural centre of the prefecture. It is the first European city you meet upon your arrival in Greece and an important transport hub between Asia, the Mediterranean and the Balkans. It is the largest city of Thrace, an important port and shopping centre that also has a modern airport that connects it with many destinations in Greece and some European countries.
