Ficus Elastica. It is one of the most popular ornamental trees in the world also known as rubber tree. Originating from India, it has strikingly large, fleshy and glossy leaves. In Greece, Ficus Elastica is known as a bushy indoor plant but we may also meet it as a tree, up to 10 meters high, in gardens or streets of various coastal areas with warm climate (Messenia and Crete). Ficus Elastika can grow in shady spots but it will also grow faster if it is placed in a spot that comes in contact with the sun for a few hours a day. The humidity of the atmosphere combined with temperatures ranging from 10-15 ° C is the ideal conditions for it. However it will easily adapt to much lower temperatures but does not like warm and dry places. It grows best in free-drained soils.

Ficus pumila also known as climbing or creeping fig plant, originating from China and Japan, with small, round leaves, one centimeter wide and thin shoot. Suitable for outdoors as it can climb. The vines of this plant often attach themselves to walls and pipes of buildings and can be very difficult to remove. The plants and vines of these species are often used in gardening as ornamental plants. We can also put it in pots and glass containers and ideally grow. It is a drought tolerant species.

Sansevieria Care tips:
 
Soil

Plant the Sansevieria in a good, rich, organic soil that drains quickly. Choose a potting soil that is low in peat. The most recommended soil is an all-purpose cactus potting mix. Every time your plant grows 2-3 cm make sure to add half inch potting soil to provide adequate support to the leaves. If the soil in the pot isn’t draining well add some sand.
 
Water

Water your plant every 2-6 weeks depending on the temperature, the light and the humidity. Always make sure the soil is completely dry before watering again. Do not over watering because your plant will rot out. Because Sansevieria is native to the deserts of Africa it does not require much water especially in the winter.
 
Light

Sansevieria prefers medium indirect light. It can withstand full sun and it can handle low light. Keep them out of the direct sun because the leaves will be burnt. The ideal place for the Sansevieria plant is a west or east-facing window so they can absorb the required 5-6 hours of sunlight per day.

  

Temperature

Sansevieria is capable of thriving in a wide range of temperatures. They can’t tolerate snow or frost and they get damaged below 10oC. Make sure to bring them indoors during winter. 
 
Fertilizers

Sansevieria plants don’t need much fertilizer but they will grow more if you fertilize them during their growing season in the spring and summer. As it is a houseplant choose a general purpose low-nitrogen cactus food diluted.

Zamia as a houseplant
 
Zamioculcas – Zamia plant is a tropical perennial plant native to Eastern Africa, Mexico and Central and South America’s tropical areas. It is a genus of flowering plant in the family Araceae and it is also known as Zanzibar gem, ZZ plant, Eternity plant or Emerald palm. Although not a palm tree, its growth habit is similar to a palm, therefore it is commonly known as cardboard palm or cardboard cycad. They should be fed with palm food.
 
Zamia is grown as an ornamental plant mainly for its attractive glossy foliage and is a very easy to care plant and requires low maintenance. 
 
The leaves are long, shiny and dark green. The stems of these pinnate leaves are thickly thickened at the bottom. The flowers are produced in a small bright yellow to brown spadix 5-7 cm long, partly hidden among the leaf bases. Flowering is from mid summer to early autumn.
 
Zamia plant contains an unusually high water contents of leaves (91%) and has an individual leaf longevity of at least six months, which may be the reason it can survive extremely well under interior low light levels for four months without water.
 
Growing conditions
 
Light: Zamia thrives in moderate to bright light with some morning or afternoon sun. A shaded place will be tolerated but will grow more slowly. During summer it can be placed in the garden or the balcony. 
 
Water: If Zamia is in a high light environment it will need to water more often than if it is in a shady area. Make sure not to over water the plant as you can cause the roots to rot. Wait until the soil dries before watering again.
 
Temperature: Zamias are fairly hardy plants. They may survive outdoors as long as the temperature does not fall below 15oC. Hot temperatures give an increase of leaf production. They are drought tolerant and should be protected from extreme cold.
 
Cultivation: It may be propagated by leaf cutting: the lower ends of detached leaves are inserted into moist gritty compost and the pot enclosed in a polythene bag. Though the leaves may well decay, succulent bulb-like structures should form in the compost and these may be potted up to produce new plants. The process may take upwards of one year.

The plant can also be propagated by division. It means to divide the plant once it’s a very large size and too big for its pot. Remove the entire plant from the existing container and gently separate some of the tuberous rhizomes. 
 
Caution: All parts of Zamia plant are toxic to the majority of pets and children, so keep the plant away from animals and kids.
 
Cleaning the leaves: The leaves are glossy so if they become dusty they will lose there shine. Don’t use leaves shine products as this can be harmful. Wash the leaves with water and the natural gloss will come back.

Always work from the base of the stem toward the tip of the leaf. With a “wiper” in both hands you can do both sides of the leaf at once with a soft cloth or paper towel.
 
Plants with pronounced fuzzy leaves or leaf hairs won’t be able to be cleaned this way. Clean individual leaves with a dry, soft washcloth. Furry leaves may also be very lightly brushed with a soft paintbrush or makeup brush. Again, work from the base of the stem toward the tip of the leaf.
 
Perform this kind of leaf-by-leaf cleaning once or twice a month. In between, use lighter methods to keep dust off. For smaller plants, you can use a soft feather duster to displace dust and keep your plants refreshed between thorough cleaning sessions.
 
If you have large plants to clean, you may use a leaf blower to blow away dust and debris and then spray the plant thoroughly with a mild solution of insecticidal soap and water.

Be sure to do this early in the day, in an area with good air circulation so that the plant can dry entirely before dark.

BROMELIAD

Bromeliads produce long-lasting blooms in locations where most house plants do not blossom at all. Bromeliads flower with yellow, pink, or red blossoms in winter and the blooms last for several weeks. Bromeliads include several different plant species, many of which are epiphytic (drawing moisture from the air rather than from soil). These are ideally suited to bask in the humidity of a bathroom, but they also need good air circulation, which can be provided by running the bathroom exhaust fan or setting up a small portable fan to run for a few hours each day. 

Bromeliads love bright, indirect light; will tolerate a few hours of direct sunlight each day but don't place them in hot afternoon sun--it can burn the leaves. Depends on genus and species; those requiring soil do well in a succulent potting mix. Feed them with an orchid fertilizer.
